🛑Stop 🛑Mistaking Anxiety for Intuition
The Quick Gut Check You Need When Your Mind Feels Messy
So I am guessing I won’t be alone in this, buuuut I’ll start by asking…
Ever get that sudden knot in your stomach and wonder, Is this my intuition warning me? Or am I just spiraling?
I’ve been there. Plenty. A lot of us have. The line between intuition and anxiety can get really - really blurry, especially when life feels chaotic or you’re on the verge of something big (the bigger the more anxiety seems to spike for me, how about you?). So let’s break it down in a way that actually makes sense, so that you can start trusting yourself without second-guessing every feeling that hits your gut.
Phew…am I right?
What Intuition Actually Feels Like
Intuition is quiet, but clear. It’s like a gentle nudge or a calm knowing. You don’t get tangled in a mess of what-ifs. It just lands. It often feels neutral or even peaceful, even if what it’s telling you isn’t what you wanted to hear.
What Anxiety Actually Feels Like
Anxiety is loud. It’s scattered. It brings a rush of physical stuff: maybe your chest feels tight, your heart races, or your hands get clammy. It’s full of spiraling thoughts and worst-case scenarios. Anxiety pushes you out of the present and straight into a million possible futures.
Quick Gut Check:
Next time you get a big feeling, pause and ask:
Does this feel calm and straightforward, or frantic and chaotic?
Am I focused on what’s happening right now, or stuck worrying about every possible outcome?
Remember: intuition DOES NOT beg for your attention. It shows up quietly and then steps back.
Anxiety demands it and will NOT let you rest.

This piece walks through how anxiety and intuition both trigger bodily sensations but differ in mental tone. Anxiety brings spirals and overthinking, while intuition is subtle and more present-focused psychologytoday.com+10psychologytoday.com+10psychologytoday.com+10
Here’s the thing: learning the difference between these two is a practice. You won’t nail it every time, but the more you pause, breathe, and check in with yourself, the easier it gets to hear your real inner voice.
Keep trusting yourself,
